NMN and NR Explained: What Human Studies Found

July 6, 2026 2 min read

Most "NAD+ booster" human studies use NMN or NR, not NAD+ itself. Here is what those studies found in plain English.

When people say they are "taking NAD+," they often mean NMN or NR. Those are smaller building blocks. Cells can turn them into NAD+.

This page explains what human studies found, without the sales pitch. CoreVials NAD+ is for lab research only.

NMN and NR in One Sentence Each

  • NR (nicotinamide riboside): a form of vitamin B3 used in many NAD+ trials.
  • NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide): another building block on the path to NAD+.

Both are studied because plain NAD+ is harder to use as a simple oral "boost" in people.

What Studies Agree On

  • Short-term safety: In the doses and time windows studied (often weeks to a few months), NR and NMN were usually well tolerated.
  • Blood markers: Many trials show NAD+-related levels in blood go up. That means the compound is doing something measurable.
  • Health results: Effects on blood pressure, blood sugar, inflammation, strength, or disease symptoms are mixed. Some small studies look promising. Many outcomes show little or no clear benefit.

A 2023 research review said the same thing in fancier words: markers go up, big health wins are not proven yet.

What We Still Do Not Know

  • Which option is "best" for a specific goal
  • How long people would need to take them
  • Whether blood changes match changes in muscle, brain, or other organs
  • Long-term safety over years

How This Connects to Catalog NAD+

Lab NAD+ is a research chemical for experiments. Human NMN/NR trials do not turn a research vial into a personal supplement plan.

Quick Questions

Is NMN better than NR? We do not have enough head-to-head human outcome data to crown a winner.

Do these trials prove IV NAD+ drips work? No. Different method, different evidence.

Can CoreVials dose this for me? No.
